Breedlove Discovery Concert Review – A Concert Acoustic Worth Discovering!

Some Breedlove guitars can reach thousands of dollars, which is why we’ll pay attention to any of their models that come in at under $300 – such as the guitars in the Discovery Series. While several variations are available, (including an attractive dreadnought), it’s the concert version that really caught our eye. Let’s take a closer look at this introduction to the Breedlove line.

Body & Neck

The first thing that attracted our attention when it came to the Discovery Concert was the modern, clean, and generally unfussy design in both the sunburst and natural finishes – apart from the black binding, the wood grain takes center-stage. While it’s an entry-level model for Breedlove, it feels anything but in the overall construction. It’s made in China, but still receives a stateside set-up and quality check at the workshop in Bend, Oregon. The materials used are also good quality, with a solid Sitka spruce top, laminated mahogany back and sides, and a slim solid mahogany neck, which offers an easy playing experience for hands of all sizes. The fretboard is made of East Indian rosewood, while there is a total of 20 frets (14 in the clear). Finally, topping off the body and neck, is the cool distinctive Breedlove tapered headstock.

Hardware

While electro-acoustics are a part of the Discovery Series, there are no electronics present on this concert. Nonetheless, the included hardware is still a good haul for the price, with sealed chrome tuners, a pinless rosewood bridge (making string changes a breeze), and a set of D’Addario EXP-16 strings. It also comes with a padded Breedlove gig bag, which is a handy accessory.

Sound

Truth be told, Breedlove don’t really make a bad sounding guitar, and the Discovery Concert is no different. Even in this lower price range there are few complaints – aside from a slight lack of low-end. Conclusion

For a sub-$300 acoustic, you can’t ask for much more than what’s on offer with the Discovery Concert. Good looks, a sleek feel, and an easy-listening tone for an all-round affordable price.
